Teaching without borders! From beautiful Sweden to American University lecture halls

Writer: Dr. Orieta DadoDr. Orieta Dado

In this guest professor series at Drake University in Iowa, we worked on demanding solo, chamber music, and audition repertoire. Saint Saëns and Prokoffiev violin concertos, Don Juan excerpt, Schubert Quintet, and Villas Lobos Quartet, among others. Despite occasional sound reception difficulties, the students were focused, prepared, respectful, and highly receptive.

We worked extensively in the gradual development of technique for fast passages. Shifting and vibrato, spiccato and martelé. Tone production to fit a composer's narrative. Leading and following tools for ensemble skills. And the different styles of sound projection for different settings: a concert hall, a room, a recording.
